The Big Bend region is one of the most scenic and special areas in Texas!

Pet-Friendly Attractions in the Big Bend

Pets are allowed in Big Bend National Park, but they are highly restricted and cannot go on any hiking trails, into the backcountry, or on the river. Pets are only permitted in developed areas, such as maintained campgrounds, along roadsides, and in parking lots, and must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times.

Pets are allowed on only two trails: Closed Canyon and the Hoodoos Trail. They are prohibited in all buildings, on backcountry trails, and in wilderness areas. Pets must be on a leash (maximum 6 feet) at all times and are restricted to within 1/4 mile of designated roads and campsites. Grassy Banks is a great option for camping with your pet in Big Bend Ranch State Park!

Post Park is located near Marathon, TX, and is the perfect spot for a picnic! Relax near the spring-fed pond and enjoy the free amenities, including picnic tables, restrooms, and BBQ pits. This is a great spot to sit back and relax in the shade of the large cottonwoods.

Located in Marathon, TX, Gage Gardens offers peaceful, paved walking trails through 27 acres of manicured gardens. It’s a great spot to stop and smell the roses! There is also a dedicated dog park within the gardens.

Access to Gage Gardens is free and open to the public daily from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Leashed pets are welcome in Davis Mountains State Park, where you can enjoy miles of scenic hiking trails with sweeping views of the mountains. This park also offers primitive camping areas with amenities for horses. Pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times. Enjoy the dark, starry skies deep in the heart of Texas!

The Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center is located 4 miles south of Fort Davis on Hwy 118. The nature center offers paved walking trails through its botanical gardens, where you can learn about the region’s native flora. Several miles of hiking trails here allow you to traverse stunning canyons. Well-behaved pets are welcome and must be leashed.

The Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center is open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
